Yane was born in the remote coastal town of Dampier in 1979 to parents who
originated in Macedonia. Five years later, with his younger brother and sister,
the family moved to settle in Broome.
With youth on his side and a maturity well beyond his years, Yane represents
an exciting new era in landscape photography. He brings a fresh eye and a
rare talent for revealing the awesome beauty in his beloved Kimberleys.
Yane’s passion for capturing Broome in all its variety and splendour
is only possible because of his remarkable patience. It is not uncommon for
Yane to spend as long as twelve months revisiting a site at different times,
in different seasons, waiting for the idyllic moment and the perfect nuance
of light to create the image that is an absolute work of art.
This commitment to his craft demanded a significant investment in photographic
technology. Yane uses a specialised panoramic camera with a large film format
18cm wide that enables him to capture infinite detail and the most subtle
variations of light, shade and mood.
Yane’s photographic prints are in great demand for adorning the walls
of prestigious residences and corporate offices around the world. Kerry Stokes
is one such renowned admirer who has a number of Yane’s photographs
in his collection. It was a proud moment indeed when Ernie Dingo, international
celebrity, opened Yane’s new Gallery in the heart of Broome’s
Chinatown in 2006 – evidence of Yane’s long-term commitment to
his future in the Kimberleys.
